About Me

My photo
Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada
I am an artist who was born and raised in Nova Scotia. I went to school in the city but spent my weekends and summers in the country. A lot of my inspiration is found within these areas where nature and man co-exist but I never limit my options. I always approach each painting on an individual basis taking into consideration composition, color, contrast, shadow and light. My work usually entails a lot of detail so I often challenge myself, toss aside most rules and go on instinct to achieve what I'm trying to convey. I am mostly a self-taught artist, who has always been busy creating things for myself or others. I have attended classes at NSCAD where I was encouraged to pursue my life's desire with more ardency. I have been fortunate over the years to be honored with several awards for my work. My work is currently exhibited at the Teichert Gallery at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Argyle Fine Arts, 1559 Barrington St., Halifax, and in various shows throughout the year. If you see work that you are interested in, then please email me and let me know. I also do commissions.

" The Welcoming Committee"

 "The Welcoming Committee" 12"x12" Acrylic
This is one of my latest paintings inspired by a scene of a home I came across during my travels last summer and it looked like a perfect "welcoming spot to spend the coming evening relaxing and taking in the beautiful country surrounding it.

" The Economy Shoe Shop"

This is a small acrylic painting that I did of "The Economy Shoe Shop"  that was featured on a promotional postcard for the business.  I love the unique atmosphere, great food and friendly service they provide, but it was the the wonderful character and charm it holds that inspired me to paint it.

"Keeping the Art Alive"

"Keeping the Art Alive" Acrylic  "16 x 20"

This scene reminded me of my father who had built a couple of boats for the family over the years. It was something he did with care and pride with a skill that had been passed down through the generations. Throughout history the water has been as much a part of life to most Nova Scotians as the air we breathed. We used to worry that it was a dying art and it made me so happy to see that they are carrying on the tradition at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic along the Halifax Waterfront that I was inspired to share it. This painting has been donated to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic and it's staff on behalf of the Contemporary Art Society in appreciation for the support they have shown our organization over the years.
