About Me

My photo
Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada
I am an artist who was born and raised in Nova Scotia. I went to school in the city but spent my weekends and summers in the country. A lot of my inspiration is found within these areas where nature and man co-exist but I never limit my options. I always approach each painting on an individual basis taking into consideration composition, color, contrast, shadow and light. My work usually entails a lot of detail so I often challenge myself, toss aside most rules and go on instinct to achieve what I'm trying to convey. I am mostly a self-taught artist, who has always been busy creating things for myself or others. I have attended classes at NSCAD where I was encouraged to pursue my life's desire with more ardency. I have been fortunate over the years to be honored with several awards for my work. My work is currently exhibited at the Teichert Gallery at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Argyle Fine Arts, 1559 Barrington St., Halifax, and in various shows throughout the year. If you see work that you are interested in, then please email me and let me know. I also do commissions.

"Dingle Bench"

"Dingle Bench", Acrylic, 8" x 10"   This is one of my favorite spots to walk in HRM.  I've done several paintings of benches in different areas..as I can always look at them and imagine myself ( or anyone else) sitting there and enjoying the view.

"Sunlit Bridge"

"Sunlit Bridge",  5" x 7", Acrylic, This is a  painting of a bridge at the Halifax Public Gardens  The damage left behind by Juan is harder to see now and the slow start to summer hasn't lessened the lush greenery that acts as a background to the Garden's Victorian structures, the flowers or their beauty.

"Lunenburg Academy"

"Lunenburg Academy" , Acrylic, 16" x 20"  This painting I did for many reasons...the main one being that the building itself is so beautiful!  I remember being amazed by it in my childhood when we would go to visit  relatives who lived and grew up in the area. It was built in the late 1800's to teach grades one to twelve for many years and is still being used to this day for children in the area.

"Foxy"

"Foxy", Acrylic, 16"x20", It was in the heat of summer when this little guy was caught on camera by a member of my extended family who has a quick camera finger and a keen eye. The fox had paused at the waters edge and took a moment to survey his surroundings before having a drink. Fox are known to be both cautious and crafty as well as quick - very handy tools in the bid for survival in the wild. Once in a while, some of us are lucky enough to catch a rare glance of  their beauty before they dash off back into the wilderness. Thanks to my friend's luck, camera skills and willingness to share the resulting photo - I was able to create this depiction of our "Foxy" friend for which I won an Honorable Mention Award at the Contemporary Art Society's 38th Annual Juried Show"

"Teddy Waiting"

"Teddy Waiting" is another one of the little paintings ("5x4") that will be showing at Argyle Fine Arts
"Pre-Shrunk". He was inspired by a little bear that was lost among all the plant life in our neighborhood and someone had set him on the rock to be found. He sat there for a few weeks patiently waiting to be reunited with his loved ones. Then one day I looked and he was gone..at last- he was found! I imagine either by his family from the past or perhaps by a new friend - but I'm sure he found himself welcomed and loved once again.

"Peggy's Delight"

This little acrylic painting (5"x4")was one of the paintings I had showing at Argyle Fine Art for their PreShrunk Show.
